October 2024 Astrology Overview & Video Horoscopes

Hi Friends,
Major transformations continue this month. The new energies for October 2024 will force us to look at reality in a whole new way. There will be some challenging aspects by mid-month that will expose the nature of our personal relationships and values. It all starts with a Libra Solar Eclipse on October 2, opening up new beginnings in partnerships. Jupiter goes retrograde on October 9, prompting introspection, while Pluto goes direct in Capricorn on October 11, driving transformation. By mid-month, Mercury enters Scorpio, leading to intense interactions. The Aries Full Moon on October 17 highlights personal goals and conflict, and the Sun enters Scorpio on October 22, focusing on psychological transformation. The month ends with innovative and creative energies as Venus and Saturn forms a key aspect, affecting love, finance, and personal growth.

On October 2, the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra will ignite a powerful astrological event that will influence themes of balance, relationships, and diplomacy. Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and harmony. This New Moon brings fresh and creative energy into our lives, and more specifically, into our partnerships.

This is a cycle in which balancing our close personal relationships becomes an urgent desire. Negotiations may be especially effective, as we are inclined to assert our needs in ways that don’t offend others. A Mars-Saturn trine can help us see the value of pacing ourselves and keeping our feet on the ground. Libra’s ruler, Venus, also harmonizes with Mars and Saturn.

However, this eclipse is square Mars which suggests some possible friction as will be activated. Mercury aligns with the Sun and Moon, pointing to a lot of thought and discussion going into our new beginnings. However, because this is an eclipse, we’re not seeing the whole picture for a while.

As a Solar Eclipse, this New Moon packs more punch! It’s the fifth eclipse in a set of six occurring along the Aries-Libra axis from April 20th, 2023, to March 29, 2025. The first one was a Total Solar Eclipse in late Aries. While we’ve been focusing on building our independence and working on assertiveness, this October eclipse in Libra prompts us to consider healthy relating and how it affects the process.

A Solar Eclipse at approximately the same degree of Libra last occurred on October 3rd, 2005. Before that, it was October 3rd, 1986, and October 2nd, 1978. Major developments in the personal areas ruled by Libra in our charts are likely to occur over the upcoming months. While eclipses can bring clarity, it’s often wise to wait a few days before making major decisions, especially those related to relationships or significant changes. My suggestion is to use the time around the eclipse for reflection and setting intentions rather than immediate action.

Our internal dialogue goes up on October 9, as Jupiter goes retrograde in Gemini. This Jupiter retrograde in Gemini can be quite an interesting period. Jupiter is associated with growth, expansion, and optimism, while Gemini governs communication, learning, and intellectual pursuits. When Jupiter is in retrograde, its energy turns inward, inviting us to reflect on these themes rather than seeking external expansion.

During this reversal we’ll be reflecting on knowledge, learning and reassess our goals as we review and refine wisdom that we’ve acquired. We might find ourselves revisiting old study materials or reflecting on past educational experiences as well. Anything to do with communication strategies and relationships might come under the spotlight now. We may feel the need to reexamine how we express ourselves or how we engage in conversations. It’s a period for revising all forms of communication style or resolving misunderstandings.

Other areas affected by this Jupiter retrograde period include internal growth, revisiting past ideas, cultural or social reevaluation, and overall community involvement. Overall, while Jupiter retrograde can feel like a pause in our outward progress, it’s a valuable opportunity for introspection and realignment. Jupiter will go direct on February 4, 2025.

On October 11, Pluto will go direct in Capricorn for the very last time. Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008 and will finally leave the sign for good on November 19, 2024. With Pluto’s power now moving full speed ahead, we will be offered an opportunity to move forward with the changes and transformations we’ve been working on, especially those related to career, authority, and personal goals.

On a societal level, Pluto in Capricorn has been working its magic to expose and transform governing bodies such as corporations, banks, governments, monetary systems, or any other authority oriented organization. This can be a time for dismantling outdated structures and building new ones. During this transit we may also find ourselves dealing with issues related to power and control. This can manifest as an opportunity to reclaim personal power or confront power dynamics in our life, whether in career, personal relationships, or within ourselves.

Our words and thoughts may be potent on October 13, as Mercury square Pluto. Mercury is the planet associated with our thinking and communication, while Pluto is the great penetrator and transformer. Mercury will form a square aspect with Pluto, marking a period of intense communication, mental challenges, and transformative thinking. A Mercury-Pluto square often brings deeper, probing thoughts, revealing hidden information, or unearthing secrets. Conversations during this time can become more intense, with a focus on manipulation, power dynamics, or obsessive thinking.

We’ll feel drawn to delve into psychological topics, uncovering deeper truths and hidden motives. There could be a tendency to engage in debates or arguments where one party is trying to assert dominance or control the conversation. This can also be a time for profound personal insights, especially if you’re willing to confront uncomfortable truths and undergo mental transformation. It’s a good time for research, psychological exploration, and any activities that require mental intensity, but it’s important to remain mindful of how you communicate with others during this period.

Our relationships and values may surprise us on October 14 as Venus in Scorpio will oppose Uranus in Taurus. This passionate astrological aspect is known for bringing surprises, disruptions, and excitement in relationships, values, and finances. When Venus (the planet of love, harmony, and beauty) faces off against Uranus (the planet of sudden change, freedom, and rebellion), it creates a tension between stability and unpredictability.

During this transit our relationships may feel unstable or erratic. There could be a desire for more freedom and space in partnerships, leading to sudden changes or the need to break away from routine. This could manifest in unexpected meetings, breakups, or shifts in dynamics. We may feel torn between wanting excitement and seeking emotional security.

This transit encourages us to embrace the unconventional. We might be drawn to unique people or experiences that push us out of our comfort zone. It’s a time when we may seek excitement or liberation in love or creativity. Venus also rules money, so this aspect can bring unexpected changes in our financial situation. We might have an urge to make impulsive purchases, or something surprising could happen in our financial life.

The tension between Venus and Uranus can stir up feelings of restlessness, especially if we’ve been feeling stuck or constrained in any area of life. This transit often encourages breaking free from societal or personal expectations to seek individuality. It’s important to remain flexible and open-minded during this time. While the opposition can bring a lot of unexpected changes, it also offers the opportunity for growth by embracing new perspectives and breaking free from outdated patterns.

Our need for action will be strong on October 17 when the Full Moon highlights the fiery sign of Aries. Full Moons are about heightened emotions and the completion of cycles, while Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, is bold, assertive, and action-oriented, this lunar event will likely push us even further as the ruler of Aries, Mars, will be square to this lunation. Volatility, emotional turbulence and assertive behavior are certainly possible now.

This Full Moon will also activate a Grand Cross alignment. In astrology, a Grand Cross is a configuration of four planets that form a cross shape, with each planet separated from the others by 90 degrees. This configuration is made up of two aspects: a square and an opposition. Many astrologer say when a Grand Cross is active it can lead to intensity, but also to great possibilities.

Aries is about self-assertion and autonomy. Under this Full Moon, we might feel a strong urge to stand up for ourselves, take charge of a situation, or initiate something new. It’s a good time to ask where you need to be more assertive or courageous in your life.

The Full Moon can also shine a light on areas of personal healing, especially regarding confidence, courage, and boldness. It’s a great time to release fears around taking initiative or expressing your authentic self. This Full Moon in Aries invites bold, brave action, but also asks for balance between independence and cooperation. It’s an energetic moment to release what no longer serves you and step confidently into your next phase.

Some optimism returns later on October 17 when Venus enters Sagittarius. Romantic adventures and a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love are on the agenda during this transit. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of Venus in Scorpio. Truth and higher meaning are the priorities with Venus in Sagittarius. We’re idealistic in our relationships during this cycle. It’s more critical than usual that our partners and companions support our dreams, goals, freedom needs, beliefs, and vision. We value intellectual rapport more than usual during this period.

Openness with our feelings can sometimes backfire, but for the most part, it can be refreshing. We tend to more spontaneously enjoy ourselves or throw ourselves into pleasure, art, cultural interests, and special interest topics at this time. We can especially enjoy travel, learning, the outdoors, or animals. With money, we can be a little reckless or careless, but also faithful and optimistic. Some element of luck or good karma can be involved with our finances. Benefits, whether material or spiritual, can come through publishing, foreign or religious connections, travel, education, or legal matters.

Tension fills the air on October 22 when the Sun in Libra will square Pluto in Capricorn. Astrologically, this aspect represents pressure and power struggles, as Pluto governs transformation, deep psychological forces, and control, while the Sun represents identity, willpower, and ego.

A Sun-Pluto square can bring intense experiences and challenges related to authority, personal empowerment, and uncovering hidden truths. You might feel a drive to assert yourself, but also encounter resistance from external forces or internal conflicts. This energy can push you to confront deeper fears, desires, or past traumas, leading to opportunities for significant personal growth and transformation, though not without discomfort.

If there are themes of control, power, or dominance in your life, this transit might amplify them, urging you to find healthier ways to deal with these dynamics. The key is to channel the intensity into constructive changes rather than becoming overwhelmed by the struggle.

Also on October 22, the Sun enters Scorpio, marking the beginning of Scorpio season. When the Sun is in Scorpio the collective energy shifts towards intensity, transformation, and emotional depth. Scorpio, a water sign ruled by both Mars (traditional) and Pluto (modern), is known for its association with mystery, regeneration, and power dynamics.

During this time, people might feel drawn to explore hidden aspects of themselves or others, embrace deep emotional experiences, and undergo processes of personal transformation. Scorpio energy encourages introspection, digging beneath the surface to uncover truths, and embracing change, even when it’s uncomfortable. Themes of passion, loyalty, and resilience often become prominent during Scorpio season. It’s a time for strengthening bonds, but also for releasing what no longer serves, as Scorpio’s transformative nature urges people to shed old patterns and grow.

On October 28, Venus will form a square aspect with Saturn. This is a challenging astrological transit that can bring up feelings of restriction, limitation, or tension in relationships, finances, and self-worth. This aspect often highlights difficulties in partnerships, where emotional distance or a sense of obligation may surface. Relationships might feel heavy or strained, and we could feel undervalued or emotionally isolated.

Venus governs money and luxury, while Saturn represents structure and responsibility. During this transit, there may be financial challenges or a need to reevaluate spending habits, focusing more on long-term stability rather than indulgence.

Because this alignment can restrictive, feelings of inadequacy or insecurity might arise. This transit encourages a serious look at our values, self-worth, and how we maintain boundaries with others. It’s a good time to work on self-discipline and emotional resilience. Although the square can bring challenges, it also presents an opportunity to build more solid, stable foundations in love or other Venus-ruled areas. If you’re willing to face issues head-on, you can make significant progress in areas that require commitment and responsibility.
